Saint Anselm College has selected Cameron Wood '15, an English major from Salisbury, Mass., as the Fr. Bernard Holmes, O.S.B., scholar for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This award, which is granted annually, provides Wood with a full tuition scholarship for his senior year. Through his major and campus involvement, Wood exemplifies the values required of a Holmes award winner. Recipients must demonstrate concern for and assistance to others, potential for leadership, and a love of learning. They must also participate in the life of the college.

As a member of the college choir, Wood performs weekly at Sunday evening Mass as well as in the small ensemble that performs at Sunday morning Mass. He is active in the Abbey Players performing in two family weekend shows, two musicals, and two cabarets. In the fall of 2013, he wrote and directed the 2013 Family Weekend musical, developing the script and lyrics for the show featuring 28 students.

"When I think about receiving this award, gratitude is the first word that comes to mind," said Wood. "I wouldn't have been eligible without the help from family and friends along the way. I'm thankful for the faculty and staff including Dr. Magnuson, Fr. Bede, and Katharine Strong for helping me become a leader on campus in the small ways that I was able."

Wood, who is minoring in secondary education, hopes to become a high school English teacher.

The Holmes Award was established through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Davison, in memory of Fr. Bernard Holmes, O.S.B., former president of the college.
