Barbara Grossman, paintingFigurative painter Barbara Grossman, a Fulbright scholar and a former faculty member of the Yale School of Art, will offer a lecture entitled "Seeing Through My Eyes" Thursday Nov. 10 at the Alva de Mars Megan Chapel Art Center. She also will conduct critiques and group discussions of student works at Comiskey Art Center Friday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Born in New York City, Barbara Grossman became a painter and educator who studied at the Yale School of Music and Art and earned a BFA from Cooper Union in New York. She has received numerous honors, including a Fulbright grant and awards from the National Academy of Design, which she has been a member of since 1994. She has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and Western Connecticut State University and was recently on the faculty of the Yale School of Art.

Her paintings and oil stick drawings deal with color and pattern, illustrating the interplay of women with their interiors. They make use of vibrant colors and dynamic spaces, and are often said to be reminiscent of Henri Matisse's compositions. Her work can be seen in gallaries across the country.
