After months of preparation, the college Mock Trial Team earned its reward on Sunday Feb. 3 when they were announced as one of seven teams advancing to the national competition.
The Saint Anselm team competed against 26 regional teams that included Dartmouth, Boston College, and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. They will compete at the Easton Open Round Championship March 13-15 in Easton, Penn.
The Northeast Regional Mock Trial Tournament for the American Mock Trial Association hosted by Saint Anselm College was February 1 to February 3.
In events described as "similar to investigation television shows," students carefully reviewed specific cases and positions to be taken and presented in front of judges, who then assessed the student's performances and gave them scores based on the quality of their information, and their presentation in four separate rounds held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
"Considering that the Saint Anselm Mock Trial team is only in its fourth season, the fact that we will be moving on to the Opening Round Championships this year is an incredible achievement" said politics major, Christopher Knight, class of 2013.
Knight continued, "I am extremely proud of this team, and their success is a tribute to the countless hours of preparation and hard work they have put into preparing this case."
