student holding mobile deviceSaint Anselm College implemented its first mobile application this week. The web-based app was created by QuadLyfe, a web marketing development firm based in Manchester, N.H. It contains multiple modules, including prospective student and current student and community applications, as well as a virtual tour of Anselmian life.

"High school students and their parents are using smartphones and tablets almost as much as desktop computers to research colleges and universities," says Michelle Adams, executive director of College Communications and Marketing. "With a global increase in user-generated content and social media, they are also focusing more on the culture of a school- considering what their daily experience will be as a student on campus, weighing that in the decision-making process. We realized that we needed to address both of these challenges, and the mobile app and virtual tour are significant steps towards that goal."

A redesign of the college website,, incorporating mobile responsive design, is planned for rollout in the 2016/2017 academic year.

"Our purpose is to empower the college to communicate campus culture through mobile and digital channels," says Christopher Downs '13, director of Product Development at QuadLyfe. "We want to improve campus connectivity by delivering critical information instantaneously and seamlessly on mobile devices."

With just a few clicks on their mobile devices, current students can easily find daily dining menus, sports scores and schedules, faculty contact information, news, alerts and more. A special events button will be utilized to share schedules for campus-wide activities such as Family Weekend.

A detailed schedule of weekend events will be published each week, allowing students to easily access a list of Hilltop happenings heading into the weekend.

In the near future, the college plans to update the app with additional features for the alumni audience, more customized campus event buttons for prospective and current students, a GPS-linked campus tour, and more dynamic content in the virtual tour.
