Last month, young alumni turned out in force to show their support of the college during the annual giving event, The March Challenge.
For the second year in a row, the class of 2012 donated the most gifts, setting a record for the most gifts contributed by one class and raising almost $2,000 in just 31 days.
"I am so proud of the example our young alumni set for the rest of the Anselmian community," said Jim Flanagan, vice president for college advancement. "I truly believe the success of the March Challenge over the last few years is a great tribute to the undeniable loyalty our youngest alumni share with the college."
Together the classes of 2005 - 2014 raised more than $12,600 directly supporting a range of areas, programs, and scholarships like Service & Solidarity Missions, the Abbey Players, the cross-country team, the fine arts department, and the Dan Breen Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund.
Every year, the college challenges classmates to band together and compete against other class years to donate the most gifts to The Saint Anselm Fund. For The March Challenge, gift amounts don't matter- only the number of alumni participants. This year 86% of the donors made gifts of $50 or less.
"As young-alumni, we often feel like our contributions are too small to make a difference, but The March Challenge reminds us that it's not about our one gift of $5-it's about what we can do as a community," said Kristen MacNeil '12, director of annual giving.
Foundations, grant-giving institutions, and ranking publications like "U.S. News and World Report" measure Saint Anselm based on alumni participation-the number of participants, not the gift amount. So increased young alumni participation during the last three years has played an important role in the developing life of the college.
In addition to the 379 alumni who donated, 40 volunteers reached out to fellow class members to assist in spreading the word.
Though March is over for another year, there are many opportunities available for alumni interested in staying in touch. For more information about volunteering contact Kristen MacNeil, Director of Annual Giving, at 603-641-7196 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
