baseball playerThe Saint Anselm College baseball team clinched the Northeast-10 Northeast Division Thursday night via Franklin Pierce University's 5-3 loss at Saint Michael's College.

With their 10-5 win at Franklin Pierce on Wednesday, May 2, the Hawks closed out their division slate at 14-6-1, while the Ravens fell to 12-5-1 with a three-game set remaining against the Purple Knights. Saint Anselm holds the tiebreaker with Franklin Pierce by virtue of its 2-0-1 record against the Ravens this season and needed Saint Michael's to win just a single contest to win the division.

The Purple Knights did not keep the Hawks waiting as they trimmed a 3-0 deficit to a just one run in the fourth and then scored three in the eighth to earn the victory.

The last time the Hawks made the Northeast-10 Championship tournament was in 2006 - the year before current head coach Barry Rosen took over the club. It is also the first time Saint Anselm captured the regular season title since the 2004 campaign.

The Hawks, who have won eight of their last 10, including two straight, will host a first-round game Tuesday, May 8 against the No. 4 seed at Sullivan Park. The No. 4 seed likely will not be settled until the final day of the regular season this coming Sunday, but will either be Bentley University, Southern New Hampshire University, Stonehill College or the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

The four winners of the first-round games will then go into a double elimination tournament that will be played Thursday, May 10 through Saturday, May 12 at the home of the highest remaining seed from the Northeast Division.
