Research Interests and Background

In the past, Dr. Shepler studied the intersection of community conflict, ethnicity and communication. Her current research includes both historical and contemporary projects related to this topic. She has looked at the rhetoric of Jane Addams and how Addams' decision to support peace efforts during World War I led to her public popularity decline. Her current research project investigates  how ethnicity is portrayed in the media and perceived by those in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.

Previously, Dr. Shepler has worked at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio and Emerson College in Boston, Mass. At Ashland University, she served as the Coordinator for Academic Advising. At Emerson College, she was the Basic Course Director.

At Saint Anselm, Dr. Shepler serves as the Coordinator of the Communication Program housed within the English Department. In addition she serves as the Director of Internships for the English Department.

When not working on her duties for Saint Anselm, Dr. Shepler enjoys traveling, cooking and baking and watching sports-particularly the Red Sox and the Patriots. She shares her home and her hobbies with her husband, Dr. Michael Meadows and their dog, Parker.
